My first 6th Edition Army

The gang from the new Millenium This year the 6th Edition Dark Elves Army release celebrates its 20th anniversary. The Armybook written by Gav Thorpe and illustrated by Dave Gallagher was mind blowing. Dave designed the Dark Elves from scratch and gave them a much darker more delicate appearance fitting perfectly into the new 6th Edition character. The new miniature range designed in majority by Chris Fitzpatrick and Juan Diaz herald a new era of miniature design. I was already a great fan of Chris Dark Elves Sorceress and his Dark Eldar miniatures. Therefore, he was a worthy successor to Aly Morrisons heir and the best what could happened to my beloved Dark Elves. During the years I painted two appreciable 6th Edition Dark Elves armies. My first try on these miniatures was a very dark and gothic like version. Dark Elf Warriors - Swordsmen I Dark Elf Warriors - Swordsmen Today I want to write about the simple troppers of the Dark Elves Army. But not about the plastic miniatures most of you will think about now. I want to write about the metal version of this regiment. I first came across these miniatures when noticing that one of the two displayed regiments of the Eavy Metal pages in the Armybook contain more than one monoposer. Several years later I read the story of these two miniatures on the Collecting Citadel Miniatures Wiki pages : "While the metal Dark Elf Swordsmen look like prototypes for the single-pose plastic Swordsman, they were released and sold blistered by themselves in packs of 2. When originally released, single-pose plastic Swordsmen came in a box of 10 (without shields or waterslide transfers), this was later reduced to a box of 8, with added shields and transfers. Shield transfer 2 was apparently the only transfer sheet sold with the plastic swordsmen...

Some Cold One Knights history A unit of Cold One Knights chasing some bretonian spearmen The last weeks I busied myself a lot with the Cold One Kinghts of the past. I studied the Games Workshop studio army of the 4th Edition release and tried to get an idea how they built their Knights and how this fits into the history of the Dark Elves army release. I get several insights I want to share and discuss with you. Back in the days of the 3rd Edition of Warhammer Fantasy Battle the Cold Ones walked on all four legs. This changed with the release of the 4th Edition Dark Elves to a more Raptor like appearance. This appearance was used by John Blanches artwork in the 4th Edition armybook which can be seen as one of the first concepts pawing the way for upcoming release. Also David Gallagher used a two leged variant when creating his Armybook cover in 1995.
