ARMIES & PROJECTS

Over the years, my painting has always been closely connected to the armies and miniatures that first drew me into the Warhammer hobby. Some of these projects have accompanied me for decades, while others revisit the classic ranges I grew up with from a completely new perspective.

Here you can find a selection of my armies and ongoing projects — from large Dark Elf collections to smaller Realm of Chaos warbands.

Dark Elves — 4th Edition

My current Dark Elf army is the project that has accompanied this blog more than any other. I started returning to the classic 4th Edition range around the time my eldest son Lennart was born, rediscovering the miniatures that had originally made me choose the Dark Elves in the late 1990s.

Since then, the project has steadily grown into a new interpretation of the army I dreamed of when I first discovered Warhammer — bringing together old favourites, rare miniatures and models I could never get my hands on the first time around.

Realm of Chaos — Slaanesh

A small but steadily growing warband dedicated to Slaanesh and the strange, extravagant character of the original Realm of Chaos era.

The growing Realm of Chaos Slaanesh warband, combining classic and unreleased Citadel miniatures.

Started in 2022 and continued after the birth of my second son Marten, the project combines classic Citadel miniatures with several exceptionally rare and unreleased models, including a Keeper of Secrets and mounted Daemonettes.

Dark Elves — 6th Edition

The release of the 6th Edition Dark Elves marked a radical change in the appearance of the army. Dave Gallagher's artwork and the miniature range sculpted predominantly by Chris Fitzpatrick and Juan Diaz gave the Dark Elves a darker, more elegant identity that fascinated me immediately.

Over the following years I painted two substantial 6th Edition armies. This was the first: an extremely dark, almost gothic interpretation that earned me the nickname “Mr. 50 Shades of Grey” — years before the novels appeared.

The experiment was relatively short-lived, but an important step in my development as a painter. One unit from this army went on to win Silver at the German Golden Demon in 2004.

My First Dark Elf Army — 4th/5th Edition

This is where it all began.

I started collecting Dark Elves while still at school in the late 1990s, after discovering the armies in the 5th Edition rulebooks. Two models initially competed for my attention: Egrimm van Horstmann riding the two-headed Chaos Dragon Baudros and Rakarth, Beastlord of Karond Kar, upon his Black Dragon.

The Dark Elves won.

My original Dark Elf army, collected and painted from the late 1990s onwards and photographed before it was sold in 2023.

This army accompanied me through roughly two decades of painting and gaming. When my new 4th Edition collection began taking over the available cabinet space, I finally decided to sell it in 2023. Before it left for its new home in the United States, however, I extensively photographed the collection — preserving the army that started my journey with the Dark Elves.
